Macey Levan, JD, PhD
(Partnering Principal Investigator)

Macey Levan is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Population Health at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research Qualitative Core at the NYU Langone Health Transplant Institute. She is the Social Media Editor for Transplantation, the most cited and influential journal in the field. In addition, she has served on the Social Media Committee for the Academy for Professionalism in Health Care. She is also an adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the Department of Surgery in the Division of Transplantation. The NIH, HRSA, and the Department of Defense primarily fund her research in technological innovations to improve the patient and public experience with organ donation and transplantation. For this project, Macey served as Partnering Principal Investigator, and provided leadership to the Johns Hopkins and NYU research team.

 

 

Karen B. Vanterpool, PhD, MPH

Karen Vanterpool is a Senior Research Scientist for the Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research Qualitative Core at the NYU Langone Health Transplant Institute. She has over 10 years of experience conducting behavioral and social science research addressing health disparities among diverse populations. For this project, Karen assisted with data collection, analysis, development of educational materials, and manuscript writing.


Max Downey, BS

Max Downey is a Senior Research Coordinator for the Center for Surgical and Transplant Applied Research (C-STAR) at New York University Langone Health. His research focuses on ethics, education, and interventions for solid organ transplantation and VCA transplantation. He is a graduate from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology. For this project, Max assisted with data collection, analysis, development of educational materials, manuscript development, and communication of findings.
